Qatar Domains Registry Policies

The policies of the Qatar Domains Registry (QDR), run by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), that apply to every .qa, .com.qa and .net.qa domain registered, renewed or transferred through WAFRA.

Effective date: 27 October 2026

English

How these policies apply

  • WAFRA IT Solutions is a CRA-accredited registrar for .qa, .com.qa and .net.qa (see .qa Domains). Every domain in these zones is held under the QDR Registrant Agreement and the policies listed below.
  • A domain is a licence to use the name for the period you pay for. It does not give you ownership of the name or any intellectual property right in it.
  • Where our Terms of Service, Domain Registration Policy or any WAFRA page differs from a QDR policy, the QDR policy applies.
  • CRA publishes the current versions on its Internet Domain Policy page, and the version CRA publishes is the one that applies. When CRA changes a policy we update our service and these pages to follow it.
  • By registering, transferring in, accepting or renewing a .qa, .com.qa or .net.qa domain with WAFRA you confirm that you have read and understood the QDR WHOIS Terms and Conditions and the other QDR policies, that you understand the Qatar Domains Registry needs your information to operate the registry, and that you agree to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as those policies describe.

The policies

  • Registrant Agreement Policy

The agreement every registrant accepts with the Qatar Domains Registry: your warranties, keeping your details accurate, renewal, cancellation and the law that applies.

  • Domain Name Registration Policy

A domain is licensed for a fixed period, not owned, and is allocated first come, first served through accredited registrars. Sets the naming rules, the reserved and prohibited names, and the eligibility for each zone.

  • Eligibility Requirements for Domain Extensions

Who may hold a name in each zone. The registrant has to stay eligible for the whole licence period.

  • Domain Name Expiry, Renewal and Deletion Policy

The grace period after a registration or renewal, what happens when a name expires, and when an expired or deleted name is released for others to register.

  • Domain Name Password Policy

The registry password (authorisation code) that moves a name to another registrar. It is given only to the registrant, never through a reseller, and a registrar may not change it without the registrant’s written consent.

  • Domain Name Transfer Policy — Change of Registrar

Moving a name to another accredited registrar: free of charge, confirmed by the registrant, and completed two calendar days after it starts. The current registrar may not delay or block it.

  • Domain Name Transfer Policy — Change of Registrant

Passing a name to a new registrant: a signed request from the current registrant, confirmation from both sides, and a new registrant who meets the eligibility rules. Names with eligibility requirements move only in the cases the policy lists.

  • Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy

Part of every registrant agreement. A trademark holder can file a complaint that a panel of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center decides; the only remedies are cancellation or transfer of the name.

  • Dispute Resolution Policy Rules

How a dispute runs: notices, the 20 days the registrant has to respond, panels, language and fees.

  • Complaints Policy

Complaints go to the sponsoring registrar first and can then be taken to the Qatar Domains Registry. Our own procedure is in our Complaints Handling Policy.

  • Acceptable Use Policy

Prohibits attacks on, misuse of, and unauthorised access to the registry system and its network.

  • WHOIS Terms and Conditions (archived CRA copy)

How the registry collects, uses, discloses and publishes registrant information, and the limits on using the WHOIS service.

  • Registry System and DNS Zone Files Access Policy

Who may access registry data and zone files. Registry data is not distributed, and a registrar sees only the names it sponsors.

  • Registry System Usage Policy

How the registry system may be used.

  • Legacy Domain Names Policy

Transitional rules for names registered before the current registry system started.

  • Definitions and Glossary

The meaning of the terms used across the QDR policies.

  • Registration Services Prices

The registry prices CRA publishes for domain registration services.

How WAFRA applies them

Part A of our Domain Registration Policy explains how these policies work in your WAFRA account: the eligibility check and documents, the domain password and recovery key, the registry authorisation code, transfers and changes of registrant, renewal and expiry, WHOIS, and disputes. Complaints follow our Complaints Handling Policy.
